El conjunto monumental de la Plaça del Rei de Barcelona es, probablemente, el rincón gótico que mejor ejemplifica el pasado medieval de la ciudad. El Palau Reial Major y las dependencias que lo rodearon cierran una plaza armónica y tranquila donde parece que todavía ser respira el pasado glorioso de Barcelona en la Edad Media.

La plaça del Rei de Barcelona está dominada por el Palau Reial Major, el edificio que vemos levantarse al fondo, con la torre-mirador del rey Martí a un lado. Residencia de los condes catalanes desde el siglo XIII hasta principios del siglo XV, la historia del edificio se remonta al siglo XI, aunque el aspecto actual pertenece a las remodelaciones hechas durante el siglo XIII. El gótico es, por tanto, el estilo predominante, aunque en la base del edificio se encuentran restos visigodos y romanos. En su interior, el Saló del Tinell, organizado en una sucesión de arcos de media punta, constituye la sala más emblemática y bella del Palau Reial Major

La gran fiesta del año nuevo tailandés suele ser a mediados de abril y es una gran fiesta del agua donde adultos y niños disfrutan del agua. El simbolismo del agua tiene su origen en la visión budista con la creencia de que el agua tiene poderes milagrosos y curativos.

Das große fest der Thai Neujahr ist in der Regel Mitte April und ist ein großes Fest des Wassers, wo Erwachsene und Kinder das Wasser genießen. Die Symbolik des Wassers hat seinen Ursprung in die buddhistische Sicht mit der Überzeugung, dass das Wasser heilende und wundersame Kräfte hat.

El edificio del mercado, espacioso y moderno, se construyó en el espacio que anteriormente ocupó el convento de Santa Caterina, del cual adpotó el nombre. Con la postguerra, Santa Caterina se convirtió en el centro de provisiones para la población de las ciudades que rodeaban Barcelona; gente de Sant Adrià, Santa Coloma o Mataró bajaban con el tranvía hasta el barrio para comprar en este mercado durante los tiempos de escasez. Hoy acercarnos aún merece la pena: la modernidad nos recibe desde fuera y nos da paso a un interior con un mercado tradicional con paradas de alimentación y restaurantes que destacan por la calidad de sus productos.


The spacious, modern market building was constructed on the former site of the Convent of Santa Caterina, from which it takes its name. During the post-Civil War period, Santa Caterina became the main food supplier to the towns on the outskirts of Barcelona. People from Sant Adrià, Santa Coloma and Mataró came on the tram to buy food in this market in times of shortage. La playa de la Barceloneta puede llenarse de gente durante la temporada alta, (de junio a septiembre) momento en el cual sería una buena idea visitar la Playa de Icària, la playa que le sigue a la Barceloneta.
