MERCADO DE SANTA CATERINA/SANTA CATERINA'S MARKET

El edificio del mercado, espacioso y moderno, se construyó en el espacio que anteriormente ocupó el convento de Santa Caterina, del cual adpotó el nombre. Con la postguerra, Santa Caterina se convirtió en el centro de provisiones para la población de las ciudades que rodeaban Barcelona; gente de Sant Adrià, Santa Coloma o Mataró bajaban con el tranvía hasta el barrio para comprar en este mercado durante los tiempos de escasez. Hoy acercarnos aún merece la pena: la modernidad nos recibe desde fuera y nos da paso a un interior con un mercado tradicional con paradas de alimentación y restaurantes que destacan por la calidad de sus productos.


The spacious, modern market building was constructed on the former site of the Convent of Santa Caterina, from which it takes its name. During the post-Civil War period, Santa Caterina became the main food supplier to the towns on the outskirts of Barcelona. People from Sant Adrià, Santa Coloma and Mataró came on the tram to buy food in this market in times of shortage. Today, the market is still worth a visit: the modern exterior ushers us into a traditional market with food stalls and restaurants which serve outstanding-quality produce. La playa de la Barceloneta de Barcelona es la playa más cercana al centro de la ciudad de Barcelona. Si caminas hacia Colom al final de las Ramblas, tendrás una caminata de 15 minutos hasta la playa. De todas formas, abajo podrás encontrar información sobre el metro. La Barceloneta tiene muy buenos restaurantes de mariscos que sirven comida fresca pescada en el mismo día. La playa de la Barceloneta puede llenarse de gente durante la temporada alta, (de junio a septiembre) momento en el cual sería una buena idea visitar la Playa de Icària, la playa que le sigue a la Barceloneta.

Barceloneta beach is the closest beach to Barcelona city centre. If you walk to Colom at the end of the Ramblas you have about a 15 minutes walk to the beach, alternatively see below for metro information.
